To kick off President’s Day weekend, Groupon announced plans to offer customers $10 off a $40 deal on local businesses. The $10 bill was selected to honor Alexander Hamilton, the face of the bill. The thing is… Hamilton was never president. According to CNN, the Groupon announcement read:
“The $10 bill, as everyone knows, features President Alexander Hamilton — undeniably one of our greatest presidents and most widely recognized for establishing the country’s financial system,” the Business Wire release read.
Of course, dozens of articles were written saying Groupon had mistakenly listed Hamilton as President. And that they needed a history lesson. However, Groupon took no offense and their reply was simple:
“Most Presidents’ Day promotions make people fall asleep, so we wanted to do something different that was in line with our brand and sense of humor that got people talking and writing about the promotion,” the spokesperson said.
