Today the baseball world lost a great man in Dr. Frank Jobe. Dr. Frank Jobe is well known for pioneering the most famous surgery in all of sports, the Tommy John surgery. In 1974 he performed the first successful surgery on Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Tommy John by replacing a torn MCL in his elbow with a tendon from John’s forearm. This surgery went to prolonged Tommy John’s major league career for 14 more seasons. The surgery not only saved Tommy John’s baseball life, but has become a staple routine in baseball and it continues to prolong the careers of many top MLB pitchers today. Dr. Jobe died from an undisclosed illness in the early morning at the age of 88.
