Soldier blows off salute to take selfie

A female soldier, Tariqka Sheffey, recently posted a photo on Instagram of herself in uniform with a caption saying she was avoiding a flag salute. The post read, “This is me laying back in my car hiding so I don’t have to salute the 1700 flag, KEEP ALL YOUR ‘THATS SO DISRESPECTFUL/HOWRUDE/ETC.’ COMMENTS TO YOURSELF cuz, right now, IDGAFFFF.” Sheffey’s disgruntled post raised criticism online from fellow military members, as well as the general public. People commented that the disrespect does not come from refusing to salute the flag, but the fact that she posted a selfie on social media acting like she was a bad@$$.

I think Sheffey should be removed from service because why have someone do something they don’t want nor respect. Either way, the actions the chain of command chooses to take will not be released to the press. It’s ridiculous what #selfienation can do to you. What do you think should happen to her?

  1. I agree with you. I think she should be removed from service. It’s a shame that there are people like this “fighting for our country” and getting the same respect and praise as other soldiers who are truly commited (until they post something like this).

  2. I agree completely. As an employee of a bureau run corporation, I cannot stand people that would disrespect the nature and importance of a solute or an oath. Disrespectful. She should be court marshaled right away.
